Shaq Has A Platinum Album and Gang Starr Does Not?

Shaq received a platinum certification from RIAA for his debut album Shaq Diesel. Meanwhile Gang Starr has released 6 studio albums and none have gone platinum. Why can't Gang Starr reach the mainstream media?
